Dr. Munasifi will listen to your concerns about your appearance and create a customized surgical plan that corrects these signs of aging around the forehead and brows. What areas does a Brow/Forehead Lift treat?
A Brow Lift with Dr. Munasifi improves the following areas:
- A sagging or low position of the eyebrows that creates a sad or tired appearance
- Deep horizontal creases across the forehead
- Deep frown lines between the eyebrows and/or across the top of the nose
- Excess skin (hooding) in the upper eyelid area that may obstruct peripheral vision
What procedures complement a Brow/Forehead Lift?
If you have more extensive signs of aging around the eyes, an Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty) may be necessary. In some cases, a combination Brow Lift and Eyelid Lift helps to correct the tired appearance of the eyes from the top of the forehead to the top of the cheekbones.
A Brow/Forehead Lift is also frequently performed with a Facelift in order to rejuvenate the entire face.
For fine surface lines and wrinkles that are caused by sun damage, laser skin rejuvenation is a wonderful non-surgical adjunct procedure to a Brow Lift.
How long does a Brow/Forehead Lift last?
Dr. Munasifi’s Brow Lift techniques are long-lasting, but the aging process does continue and varies from person to person. If you care for your skin properly and avoid sun exposure, your Brow Lift could last 10-12 years.
Are there different types of Brow/Forehead Lifts?
Yes, there is a traditional Brow Lift and an endoscopic Brow Lift. Dr. Munasifi will discuss these options with you and will make a recommendation based on your anatomy and desired results.
A traditional brow lift involves an incision that runs across the top of the head hidden within the hairline.
An endoscopic brow lift requires 3-5 small incisions hidden within the hairline.
What kind of anesthesia is required for a Brow/Forehead Lift?
General or local anesthesia may be used, and a Brow Lift is usually an outpatient procedure, which means you can go home the same day. Anesthesia is always provided by a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist.
You will need to have someone available to drive you home, however. Alternatively, we can provide a car service to bring you to your surgery appointment and take you home for a minimal fee, provided you have an adult to accompany you.
What happens during a Brow/Forehead Lift?
A Brow Lift takes about 1 hour. Excess skin is removed in precise amounts, the eyebrows are lifted, and the muscles are repositioned or adjusted, as necessary. If your eyebrows have lost their natural arch, Dr. Munasifi can also reshape them so that they are no longer as straight or flat.
If the endoscopic technique is used, an endoscope attached to a camera is inserted into the incisions so that Dr. Munasifi can adjust the skin and muscles without the need for a long incision.
Stitches or staples are used to close the incisions.
When can I return to work after a Brow/Forehead Lift?
All of our patients are able to leave the house the day after their procedure. Many of our patients begin working from home within 4-5 days. Some patients who are comfortable wearing hats or camouflage makeup to cover any bruising have even returned to the office or attended social events at this point. However, if you wish to wait until most bruising has subsided, we suggest allowing a 1 or 2-week recovery period after a Brow/Forehead Lift before returning to work.
What is recovery like after a Brow/Forehead Lift?
Dr. Munasifi is very particular about patient care after procedures, so he will meet with you multiple times throughout the recovery process to monitor your healing. All surgical follow-up appointments are provided free of charge, as he wants you to feel comfortable with bringing up any concerns or questions you have.
When the procedure is completed, a bandage is placed around your forehead to minimize swelling and bruising. After a period of time in our recovery room, you can go home. The stitches or staples are removed in about 7-10 days.
After 4-5 days, the large bandage is removed, and many patients feel comfortable going out in public wearing hats, scarves, or camouflage makeup to disguise any noticeable bruising. For the majority of the bruising and swelling to subside, however, recovery usually takes about 1-3 weeks. It’s normal to experience some soreness, bruising, tightness, numbness, itching, and swelling. We will give you a prescription for pain medication, but many patients find that non-prescription painkillers such as Tylenol are enough.
If you keep your head elevated during sleep for a few nights, you can help reduce swelling. You might also feel more comfortable sleeping on your back as you heal.
Since strenuous activity can increase blood pressure, it’s very important to avoid heavy exercise for about 6 weeks. However, being completely inactive is one of the worst things you can do after a procedure. Dr. Munasifi encourages patients to take regular long walks beginning the day after surgery. You should be able to resume light exercise after about 2 weeks.
Scars are usually not noticeable after enough time has passed for them to mature. Until that time, they are hidden by your hair. If you feel that any scar is too visible, you can use makeup to cover it further. We will also give you strategies to help the scars heal faster and better.
Rest assured that we will give you detailed instructions for your recovery, and we will be available to answer your questions and monitor your progress during follow-up examinations. Dr. Munasifi believes in providing the attention you need to feel comfortable about your procedure, and he loves getting to know his patients.
