Dr. Munasifi addresses many signs of aging on the neck during a Facelift (Rhytidectomy), but if you have a substantial amount of lax skin, excess fat, and muscle bands on the neck, you might wish to have a Neck Lift.
He skillfully repositions both the skin and the underlying tissue, including the muscles, so that the changes made during your Neck Lift are well-supported and long-lasting. He might also opt to use fat grafting in some areas to restore lost volume and soften facial contours. This combination sometimes provides the most natural look.
Dr. Munasifi has a host of techniques available to him, and he will choose the ones that are best for your anatomy and the results you want. His training and years of experience allow him to apply both science and art to your surgery.
When your neck looks younger, the difference is dramatic but not usually obvious. Chances are, your friends and family will simply say, “You look great. Did you lose weight?”
Advanced Plastic Surgery Center provides a five-star experience with personalized attention so that you never feel rushed.
What does a Neck Lift treat?
A Neck Lift with Dr. Munasifi improves excess fat, lax skin, and muscle bands on the neck, including what is commonly known as “turkey neck.” The result is an overall more youthful look.
What procedures complement a Neck Lift?
A Facelift and Neck Lift are often performed concurrently to address signs of aging from the midface to the shoulder.
Fat Grafting is sometimes included with your Neck Lift. This procedure uses liposuction to harvest fat cells from an area on the lower body. Only very small incisions are necessary. The fat is treated and then injected into areas of the neck to restore volume and smooth out the contours. Dr. Munasifi has found this combination to provide the most beautiful and natural results.
How long does a Neck Lift last?
Dr. Munasifi’s Neck Lift techniques are long-lasting, but the aging process does continue and varies from person to person. If you care for your skin properly and avoid significant weight loss or gain, your Neck Lift could last 10-12 years.
What kind of anesthesia is required for a Neck Lift?
In most cases, general anesthesia is used, and a Neck Lift is usually an outpatient procedure, which means you can go home the same day. Anesthesia is always provided by a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist.
You will need to have someone available to drive you home, however. Alternatively, we can provide a car service to bring you to your surgery appointment and take you home for a minimal fee, provided you have an adult to accompany you.
What happens during Necklift surgery?
A Neck Lift takes about 2 hours and involves two or all three of the following techniques:
- Liposuction is performed for the removal of fat. It starts with an incision below the chin. The fat deposits are removed by inserting a small cannula (a hollow tube with an opening near its blunt end) beneath the skin and into the fatty tissue. The cannula is used to break up the fat and is attached to a suction device to remove the fat from the neck area.
- Cervicoplasty is performed to remove excess skin on the neck. An incision is made under your chin and/or behind the ears. Dr. Munasifi then removes and redrapes the skin, securing it with sutures or a special type of permanent adhesive glue.
- Platysmaplasty is done if you have a banded appearance on the neck. The incisions made under the chin and behind the ears for Cervicoplasty can be used for Platysmaplasty. A tiny instrument is inserted to either remove a portion of specific neck muscles or realign them, which tightens the middle area of the neck. Dr. Munasifi sutures areas of the muscles in order to maintain them in the best position.
When can I return to work after a Neck Lift?
All of our patients are able to leave the house the day after their procedure. Many of our patients begin working from home within 4-5 days. Some patients who are comfortable wearing scarves or camouflage makeup to cover any bruising have even returned to the office or attended social events at this point. However, if you wish to wait until most bruising has subsided, we suggest allowing a 2-3-week recovery period after a Neck Lift before returning to work.
What is recovery like after a Neck Lift?
When the procedure is completed, an elastic bandage is applied to your neck and head, and a bandage and tape is applied across the chin or behind the ears. These bandages help to reduce swelling and discomfort. After a period of time in our recovery room, you can go home.
Dr. Munasifi is very particular about patient care after procedures, so he will meet with you multiple times throughout the recovery process to monitor your healing. All surgical follow-up appointments are provided free of charge, as he wants you to feel comfortable with bringing up any concerns or questions you have.
After about a week, the large bandages are removed, and many patients feel comfortable going out in public wearing scarves or camouflage makeup to disguise any noticeable bruising. For the majority of the bruising and swelling to subside, however, recovery usually takes about 2-3 weeks. It’s normal to experience some soreness, bruising, tightness, numbness, itching, and swelling. We will give you a prescription for pain medication, but many patients find that non-prescription painkillers such as Tylenol are enough.
If you keep your head elevated during sleep for a few nights, you can help reduce swelling. You might also feel more comfortable sleeping on your back as you heal.
Since strenuous activity can increase blood pressure, it’s very important to avoid heavy exercise for about 6 weeks. However, being completely inactive is one of the worst things you can do after a procedure. Dr. Munasifi encourages patients to take regular long walks beginning the day after surgery. You should be able to resume light exercise after about 2 weeks.
Scars are usually not noticeable after enough time has passed for them to mature. If you feel that any scar is too visible, you can use makeup to cover it further. We will also give you strategies to help the scars heal faster and better.
Rest assured that we will give you detailed instructions for your recovery, and we will be available to answer your questions and monitor your progress during follow-up examinations. Dr. Munasifi believes in providing the attention you need to feel comfortable about your procedure, and he loves getting to know his patients.
