The goal of breast reconstruction is to replace your breasts with symmetrical, aesthetically pleasing new breasts. Learn when it’s recommended and what options exist.
Having children is often one of the highlights of a woman’s life, but it changes your body in ways that you may not like. Everything about your body may feel softer and may sag. If you miss your pre-baby body, you’re not alone; many women feel the same way.
After pregnancy and nursing, you may be ready to get your body back. Getting a mommy makeover can significantly transform your body. Many women know about how a mommy makeover can tighten their stomach but may not know about the way it can perk up your breasts, too. The specialists at Advanced Plastic Surgery Center explain more about the advantages of a mommy makeover.
A “mommy makeover” is a way to get your body back to its pre-pregnancy shape and size. The plastic surgery review site RealSelf.com reported that 95% of women who have had a mommy makeover say it was “worth it.”
The mommy makeover usually includes more than one surgical procedure designed to restore your body to its pre-pregnancy size and shape. This usually consists of some of the following procedures, depending on what your body needs:
During a pre-surgery consultation, your provider will determine what changes you want to see and which procedures you need. However, It should be noted that you should be within 5 percent of your ideal weight before getting a mommy makeover. It’s not designed to substitute for weight loss, as your body shape will likely change again during the weight loss process.
Your breasts may look saggier or even a bit deflated, especially if you nursed your babies. It’s common for your breasts to lose some volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Some women choose to have a breast lift, which removes and tightens excess tissue. This has the effect of creating an appearance of lifted breasts. This also often requires moving the areolas and possibly also reducing their size.
Some women also choose to have breast augmentation, during which we insert breast implants to create the look of fuller breasts. During your consultation, you will have an opportunity to tell your provider how big you want your breasts to be and what shape you would like them to have.
Other women opt for a combination of a breast lift and a breast reduction, during which we reduce the amount of breast tissue. This is often very helpful to women with heavy breasts, who may experience less back pain after the procedure.
When you have a mommy makeover--especially if you have more than one procedure--you will usually be expected to get up and out of bed the same day of your surgery. You can gradually increase your activity levels each day.
However, we typically advise you to avoid strenuous exercise for the first 2-3 weeks after surgery. For most women, we suggest that it will take a couple of weeks for you to recover.
You’ll need someone to help you during the first few days after the procedure. However, if you still have a baby at home, you can pick up your baby the day after the surgery. You’ll need help getting them in and out of a car seat or a crib, but you can hold them as much as you want.
If you’re done having all of your children and want to get your pre-baby body back, consider having a mommy makeover. Call the providers at Advanced Plastic Surgery Center for a consultation or request an appointment online.
